Code of Conducts
Team Tigers is proud of its tradition of fair play and respect for opponents, officials, and supporters. We expect members to follow the laws and spirit of the game, plus relevant league and competition rules. We also expect members to be honest, and to support the club in its aim of providing recreational cricket for members of all ages.
This code sets out the way in which the Club will deal with reported breaches of the expected standards of behaviour. In some cases, breaches of rules or behaviour by club members will be investigated by other organizations, such as the league authorities, under their own codes.
Team Tigers is committed to maintaining the highest standards of behaviour and conduct. This Code of Conduct incorporates the Spirit of Cricket, as set out below. It applies to all matches played under the auspices of the Team Tigers and may be applied to cricket in general.
This code applies to:
a. Any person playing for, supporting, or representing the Club at any level during, before and after matches.
b. Any person engaged in practice and/or coaching under the auspices of the club.
1.1 Spirit of Cricket
Cricket is a game that owes much of its unique appeal to the fact that it should be played not only within its Laws, but also within the Spirit of the Game. Any action which is seen to abuse this spirit causes injury to the game itself. The major responsibility for ensuring the spirit of fair play rests with the captains.
The Spirit of the Game involves RESPECT for:
- Your opponents
- Your own captain and team
- The role of the umpires
- The game’s traditional values
It is against the Spirit of the Game:
- To dispute an umpire’s decision by word, action or gesture
- To direct abusive language towards an opponent or umpire
- To indulge in cheating or any sharp practice, for instance
Violence
There is no place for any act of violence on the field of play.
Players
Captain and umpires together set the tone for the conduct of a cricket match. Every player is expected to make an important contribution to this.
1.2 The captain is responsible at all times for ensuring that play is conducted within the Spirit of Cricket as well as within the Laws.
1.3 Players and team officials must at all times accept the umpire’s decision. Players must not show dissent at the umpire’s decision or react in a
provocative or disapproving manner towards another player or a spectator.
1.4 Players and team officials shall not intimidate, assault or attempt to intimidate or assault an umpire, another player or a spectator.
1.4 Players and team officials shall not use crude and/or abusive language (known as “sledging”) nor make offensive gestures or hand signals nor
deliberately distract an opponent.
1.6 Players and team officials shall not make racially abusive comments nor indulge in racially abusive actions against fellow players, officials, members
and supporters. The Club must operate an active open door membership policy whilst respecting player qualification regulations and welcome
players/members irrespective of ethnic origin.
1.7 Players and team officials shall not use or in any way be concerned in the use or distribution of illegal drugs.
1.8 Players shall cooperate with the captain, umpires, teammates, club officials and opposition players.
1.9 Players shall always be dressed in the correct attire and be ready to begin the game or pre-match preparation at the scheduled time.
1.10 Disrespectful or bad language within the clubrooms or its surrounds especially when females, guests or young people are present is not acceptable.
Players shall treat the clubrooms, equipment and all of the facilities as they would treat their own home and belongings.
1.11 Anti-social behavior in public while representing the club, including drink driving, is not acceptable
1.12 Players shall follow the Team’s Social media policy while using social media.
1.13 Players shall be committed and comply with the Team’s Inclusion and diversity policy.
2. Reporting Procedure for Violation of code of conduct
2.1 The following people can lodge a report of a suspected breach of standards of behaviour:
a. A match official
b. A Club member
c. An opposing club official
The report should be made in writing/verbal form to the the Secretary of the Club.
2.2 The Club will appoint a disciplinary panel, generally of three members of the Club . The disciplinary panel will tell the person/people involved in the breach that they are undertaking an investigation. The panel will take evidence from relevant people – eg match officials, team managers, opponents, league officials, coaches, players, supporters. Evidence can be written or oral. The panel will generally hold a meeting to discuss the evidence and invite the person involved in the reported breach. The person will be allowed to bring someone with them to the meeting.
Having taken evidence and heard from the person/involved in the reported breach, the committee will come to a decision on next steps. If the panel is satisfied that no breach has taken place, then no further action will be taken. If the panel considers that a disciplinary breach has occurred, they will decide on further action. The Club does not have a prescribed list of penalties, but options include a verbal or written warning about behaviour; a suspension for a period of time or a number of matches; a suspension of membership of the club. The person/people involved will be informed of the outcome of the investigation in writing within 14 days of the hearing.
In some cases, the outcome of the disciplinary panel’s investigation will be reported to relevant authorities – eg the league secretary.
2.3 Any appeals against the decision of the panel should be referred in writing to the CEO of the Club. Any appeal will be held within 14 working days of the appeal being lodged at a time and place convenient to all parties. Notification of the appeal will be sent in writing to the appellant within 10 working days of the appeal.
3. Injury
3.1 Cricket is an injury prone game and players may get injured while playing or practicing for Team Tigers. Given the appropriate funding is available, Team Tigers shall arrange the insurance coverage for the injured players.
3.2 However, In absence of insurance coverage, players shall bear all the cost incurred for medical and rehabilitation expenses.
3.3 Team Tigers (including Board, Management or any players) shall not be held legally or ethically responsible for the injury of any players and its long term and short term health related consequences.
3.4 Unless otherwise committed, Team Tigers shall not pay any compensation or remuneration to the players due to his/her injury.
4. Commitment to the Team
4.1 Players shall not play or practice for other teams if it contradicts with the match/practice schedules of the Team Tigers.
4.2 Players include all the listed players of the team both playing and non playing.
4.3 Players shall apply their own discretion to attend any meeting, event, party or get-together arranged by any other cricket teams in Canada.
4.4 In the event of the breach of above mentioned clauses:
The management committee may decide (at its sole discretion) :
To hold a hearing at which the accused players will be entitled to attend and defend himself;
Or will have the power to impose any one or more of the following sanctions on any person found to be in breach: (a) warn as to future conduct; (b) suspend from membership; (c) remove from membership; (d) exclude a non-member from the facility, either temporarily or permanently; and (e) turn down a non-member’s current and/or future membership application;
And will provide the player/s with written reasons for its decision.
Inclusion & Diversity Policies
Team Tigers, in all its activities, is fully committed to the principles of equality of opportunity in cricket, and to ensuring that its employees, members, players and all other individuals working or volunteering for Team Tigers, and participating in or watching Team Tigers’ activities are treated fairly and are able to conduct their activities free from discrimination, harassment or intimidation.
1.1 Team Tigers, in all its activities will not discriminate, or in any way treat anyone less favourably against on the grounds of age, gender, disability, race, parental or marital status, pregnancy, religion or belief or sexual orientation.
1.2 Team Tigers will not tolerate harassment, bullying, abuse or victimisation of individuals.
1.3 Team Tigers will endeavour to create access and opportunities for all those individuals who wish to participate, and are lawfully eligible to participate, in its activities.
1.4 This policy is fully supported by the Team Tigers’ officers and [management committee] who are responsible for the implementation of this policy.
1.5 Team Tigers is committed to the investigation of any claims when brought to its attention, of discrimination, harassment, bullying, abuse or victimisation of an individual, and reserves the right to impose such sanction as it considers appropriate and proportionate, where such is found to be the case.
1.6 In the event that any employee, member, volunteer, participant or spectator feels that he has suffered discrimination, harassment, bullying, abuse or victimisation, they should report the matter in writing to the management committee of Team Tigers.
1.7 Any such report should include: details of what occurred; when and where the occurrence took place; any witness details and copies of any witness statements.
1.8 The management committee may decide (at its sole discretion) to uphold or dismiss the complaint without holding a hearing;
Or may (at its sole discretion) hold a hearing at which both parties will be entitled to attend and present their case;
Or will have the power to impose any one or more of the following sanctions on any person found to be in breach of any policy: (a) warn as to future conduct; (b) suspend from membership; (c) remove from membership; (d) exclude a non-member from the facility, either temporarily or permanently; and (e) turn down a non-member’s current and/or future membership application;
And will provide both parties with written reasons for its decision.
Social Media & Networking Policies
For the purpose of this Social Media and Networking Policy, the policy will encompass public communications through such internet mediums and websites as Whatsup, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and any other social media network that allows users to communicate online. The policy will be applicable to all members of the Team Tigers Community, including Directors, Teams, General members, Associate members, Life members and staff, on-the field and off-the field officials, players, player's family members and supporters.
Team Tigers recognizes and appreciates the value of social media and the importance of social networking to all of its stakeholders. Team Tigers also respects the right of all members and personnel to express their views publicly. At the same time we must be aware of the dangers social media and networking can present. The purpose of this policy is to educate the Team Tigers Community on the risks of social media and to ensure all stakeholders are aware that conduct deemed to be inappropriate may be subject to disciplinary action by the Team
A. Comments or remarks of an inappropriate nature which are detrimental to a Team, Captain, Team Management, Executive Committee, Board of
Directors or an individual will not be tolerated and will be subject to disciplinary action.
B. It should be recognized that social media comments are on the record and instantly published and available to the public and media. Everyone
including Team personnel, players, corporate partners and the media can review social media communications. You should conduct yourself in an
appropriate and professional manner at all times.
C. Refrain from divulging confidential information of a personal or team related nature. Avoid revealing business or game strategy that could provide
another team or individual a competitive advantage. Furthermore, do not discuss injury information about any player. Only divulge information that is
considered public.
D. Use your best judgment at all times – pause before posting. Ultimately, you are solely responsible for your comments and they are published for the
public record.
E. If requested to participate in an online network, as a direct result of your affiliation with or participation in Team Tigers recommends that you request
approval from the Team Management.
F. The following are examples of conduct through social media and networking mediums that are considered violations of the Team Tigers Social Media
and Networking Policy and may be subject to disciplinary action by the Team
a) Any statement deemed to be publicly critical of club officials or detrimental to the welfare of a member Team, or an individual.
b) Divulging confidential information that may include, but is not limited to the following: player injuries; trades or other player movement;
game strategies; or any other matter of a sensitive nature to a member Team, or an individual.
c) Negative or derogatory comments about any of the Team, League, programs, stakeholders, players or any member of a Team Tigers.
d) Any form of bullying, harassment or threats against players or officials.
e) Photographs, video or comments promoting negative influences or criminal behavior, including but not limited to: drug use, alcohol abuse, public
intoxication, hazing, sexual exploitation, etc.
f) Online activity that contradicts the current policies of Team Tigers
g) Inappropriate, derogatory, racist, or sexist comments of any kind, in keeping with the Team Tigers policies and regulations on these matters.
h) Online activity that is meant to alarm other individuals or to misrepresent fact or truth.
G. The Executive Committee will investigate reported violation(s) of this policy. If the investigation determines that a violation has occurred, the CEO of the club will impose an appropriate suspension.
H. When using social media and networking mediums, the Team members should assume at all times they are representing the Team Tigers. All members of the Team Tigers community should remember to use the same discretion with social media and networking as they do with other traditional forms of media. Should the identity or image of any member of the Team Tigers Community be used in Social Media and Networking without the Individual, Team authorization, this is considered to be identity theft. Please notify the Team Management immediately.
